the electrification will continue today. i want to get a freezer going, even if it may risk attention. first order of business is finding a freezer, but i can hardly transport it without help. this is a new problem for me, ive mostly been able to transport everything so far, but not to worry: ill figure it out. but not today. today i will get the electricity into these walls.
i went downstairs, back into the electrical room. it smelled as it did last time. a bit of moldy note now actually, but mostly just humid stone and wood. all the breakers were turned off as expected, with the one for the electrical room turned on. i soon found a large, 4-slot breaker labeled for the second floor and turned it on. it immediately turned back off. fuck. i tapped it with a piece of junk off the floor and tried again. and it stayed. the old electrical meter did not start turning, so it seemed nothing there was consuming any power. at least i hope so.
but up here, the power still isnt working. there must be more distribution panels which i will have to look for.
after finding them, i was disappointed. the breakers were all in place. no luck here after all, it seems. maybe in another building - i have a lot to choose from - but that would be quite annoying indeed. it sucks.
the best solution, i suppose, would be to give up on the grid
entirely and make use of those solar panels i found a while
back, but i need an inverter for that and i doubt there are any
here. maybe on some rooftops, or even in the apartment with the
panels themselves. i didnt find them there yet, but... maybe!
its not even quite noon yet, so i suppose its worth a shot.

no luck. i did find some more useful stuff (batteries, most
notably, though mostly flat and thus useless) but no inverter
or anything i think can help me make one. i also didn't find
a freezer or anything of the sort. some fridges, sure, but
other than that...
and then theres still no guarantee i can move them. in fact there is instead a guarantee that i cant, at least not without a lot of tooling that i dont have. it will have to wait.
and now despite all the trouble, im still not one step closer
to actually having a freezer. its not evening yet, but im out
of ideas. fuck this. im going back downstairs and turning on
all the breakers. maybe one will give me power.

and power give me it did. but not in a good way. in fact, i
may have to look out for the next few days: upon flipping
the third breaker, the meter sprung to life and showed a
truly horrifying amount of power consumption, certainly
more than a dead city should have. in fact, the breaker
tripped within a few moments, thats how high it was.
but now that i was about as revealed as i could be by the electricity, i decided to turn the rest on as well, without issue. and good news: i do have power on my outlet now. and i seem to have completely missed the fact that one of the old apartments next to mine does have a fridge, which is even still plugged in and has gotten cold by now. i unplugged as many appliances as i could to not use more power than necessary though, in the whole block. can't be too careful.
