it is nighttime right now. i was gonna just be awake for an short while to maintain the fire and maybe add some water to the soup, not writing anything or doing anything particularly special, but then i looked up.

what i saw was not too out of the ordinary, but it felt special. as i looked at the stars, i thought about just how rare my life is, and how few people actually ever take the time to look up at night. how few people can even afford the time to do that. and yet it might just be the most beautiful thing i have seen in... i dont even know how long. a long time, anyway, doesnt matter exactly how long. i saw some moving lights too, probably sattelites or airplanes, if those still fly - i havent seen them in a while. ...if i read this back in the future: please take 10 minutes to look at the stars whenever you get the next chance. it is so worth it. eyes focused at infinity, perceiving the imperceptible expanse of the cosmos, you in it while surrounded by a chill breeze.

i am back inside now, probably late for my usual time to go back to sleep, but i dont really mind. it was worth every moment, and would be even if my time wasnt nearly worthless. but now i am going back to sleep.

i woke up a bit tired. i am very used to a strict sun-locked schedule. in fact, i set my clocks based on it; sunset is strictly 21:00, and thats also almost exactly when i go to sleep. i could instead set them based on noon, but this is a lot easier to do, and does the job of giving me an anchor. while today i did not deviate from my time when it comes to my first sleep, i did deviate in my second sleep. it was quite a bit later than usual due to having watched the stars. it was also a bit longer as a result of the worse sleep quality, but even with the increase in length, it was still enough of a quality loss to apparently throw me off a bit. but thats okay. i have little to do today, so i will probably have a relaxed day.

today i want to go for a long walk in the forest up north. i also need to get some new water. the rest of my soup stuff i still have in storage, but im running low on the water. but thats no issue, it just means its time i dip one of my buckets into the river to the north and get it boiling for a while, then it can join the other stuff in the basement to cool down.

now it is time to refuel the fire and then get going.

it's evening now. the fire actually nearly went out! i should be better than this at predicting it, but guess i'm not. its back to full flame again of course, a metal bucket beside it with some delightful, clear riverwater, not boiling yet but on its way there. i am about to have my dinner and then look at the sunset before going to sleep.

dinner's eaten. currently the perpetual soup is quite watery compared to the last few days - i had put in quite a lot of water. but it was tasty anyway. good thing i have a lot of spices at my disposal to add when needed.

sometimes i wonder whether or not i could ever return to normal society. it doesnt seem like i will ever have to at this rate, but going from a place where i am all by myself, with most of my days being free time and the rest being light, diverse work, all without significant amounts of technology, back to a situation where i have to work a normal job on a computer or whatever, seems extremely exhausting. a big downgrade.

on the topic of technology: maybe i can actually resurrect the electric grid here some day. the power lines are still up of course, and so are the step down transformers. i just need to hook into them, in theory. maybe even the houses have a working connection, just with a breaker somewhere stopping central power at one level or the other.

maybe i will explore that tomorrow, maybe not. but the sun has just set, so its time to lay down. today is another floor day.
