no more standards. we not only have enough, we have too many. or too strongly.
like for example website standards. this one doesnt conform to them. good.
or for example how grammar is supposed to work. i often dont that. good.
or what some people or institutions want. thats a form of coercion enforced through violence. remove it, it isnt good.
web standards kind of suck. well not entirely, having a way to put this text on your screen is nice. but unfortunately usually it isnt just putting some text on your screen, but rather putting an entire big complicated mess on your screen. and often it is too complicated to do its job. but the problem is not that its possible within "html the standard" because having an arbitrarily limited version of anything isnt very nice. the problem standard is the expectation and permission that websites can Be Like That.
grammar is cool, having some way that you can ensure you can be understood is pretty good. but i can be understood if i do 90%, so why limit myself creatively and expressively by using the 100%? and why enforce the 100% when the 90% do trick too.
the third one doesnt need an explanation.
if you want to compare something to a standard in a valuing way,
dont or make sure you arent being misery.
if you want to make/set a standard,
dont or make sure you arent being misery.
if you want to conform to a standard,
dont or make sure you arent being misery.
xkcd 927 implies you should follow standards.
as mentioned above: if you want to conform to a standard,
dont [...].
make something new right now, but expect noone to follow it as a standard.
